This week is moving week! So far our kitchen has remained largely unpacked, but that won’t last long! The menu for this week is not at all what I normally do, but there is goodness to come. I am moving to a spectacular kitchen and all of my cooking equipment can now come out of storage and get put away. Bear with me this week and I promise to share some of my favorite recipes, create some and entertain friends again starting in April.
Monday – Take-out – probably burgers
Tuesday – Take-out – Chinese
Wednesday – Take-out – Mexican
Thursday – Take-out – ?????
Friday – Pizza at the new house!!!!
I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter and that your Spring is full of blessings and new beginnings!
Well, since my charming little family is on its way out, I’ll share some photos of the charming little rental house we have occupied for the last 6 months. I feel like we just plopped our stuff down and didn’t do much else. We still have boxes everywhere and mismatched décor. It isn’t as organized as I usually keep things and definitely not decorated to my normal taste. But it has been nice. We have been cozy and comfortable.
Being within walking distance to all of this has been fun too:
There’s a movie theater, shopping, restaurants, you name it! I will miss running with the dog early in the morning before the shops open. It’s so peaceful and I get to window shop too! And the usual Starbuck’s stop will be missed! But we are on to new things. I can’t wait to get decorating our new house and making it our home. I’ve decided to name it “Chateau Charmant” which means “charming castle”. Isn’t everyone’s home their castle? I think it should feel that way!
This is what my foyer and dining room look like right now:
You got it, folks! We are moving out! We bought a house and close in a couple of weeks. We are thrilled. Here is our new beauty:
The whole family is very excited! There are rooms to decorate, a huge kitchen to cook and create in, and plenty of dreaming and scheming to do! I can’t wait to share it all with you!!!!
I am trying to come up with a name for our new home. Any suggestions? She needs a proper title. She is going to get a little make-over in the coming month. But it is sure to enhance her beauty. I just can’t wait!!! (did I already mention that?) Send me any suggestions for a name for her. I’m open to it all!
Well, my friends, it is time to explain why I’ve been MIA for so long. We sold our house! In 9 days! I couldn’t believe it myself. And the buyers wanted us out in 30 days. Amazing! It was a whirlwind, but thanks to my fabulous neighbor who happens to be an expert packer, we were able to do it. The down side was that we couldn’t work out the house we wanted to buy, soooo we are renting. It is only temporary and we are in the most fantastic neighborhood. We rented a very cute house located behind a very upscale shopping center in town. Everything is within walking distance which is wonderful and dangerous all at the same time. It is almost heaven to me to be able to walk to Williams-Sonoma anytime I want, or to get a Starbucks when I need a little caffeine kick, or a great fashion boutique for some retail therapy. My kids love being close to a candy shop and their favorite pizza place. I’m going to have to be careful not to spoil them!
But here’s the trouble with renting….. it’s not yours. My interior decorator heart is yearning to fix this place up! Right now I have painters here who have matched the paint color of the house and are giving it a bit of a refresher. It needed it. The walls were worn and scuffed and it was just downright depressing. I’ll post some photos once they are done. At least the house was painted a color I liked and that matched my furnishings. We won’t be hanging too many pictures or cooking gourmet meals at this house. There are plenty of places to eat that we can walk to. Fabulous!!! And the garage is packed full of our stuff, but it isn’t forever. It’s pretty close quarters with the things we have put in the house. But a house is only a home when your family is there. We will have a good time here, even if it is just temporary.
(As you can see, we’ve decorated a bit for Halloween)
Happy Labor Day everyone! Can you believe it is Labor Day already?! How time flies!
This weeks menu is all about eating what you have. I need to clear out my pantry and freezer because WE SOLD OUR HOUSE! It was amazing! 9 days flat. Now it is a whirlwind of packing, cleaning and preparing for the new owners.
Monday – Chicken in a spinach cream sauce (I have chicken breasts and spinach in the freezer)
Tuesday – Corn Chowder (there must have been a sale on creamed corn a while back because I have 4 cans of the stuff) This is a simple recipe of 4 cans creamed corn, 2 cups milk, 1 cup half and half, 1/2 stick butter cut into small pieces, sautéed onion (chopped), diced potatoes and salt and pepper. Let it all simmer together for a couple of hours.
Wednesday – spaghetti and meatballs (got it in the freezer)
Thursday – Chili (This is my dads champion recipe! Sorry, I’ll never share.)
Friday – Steak and veggies (whatever we’ve got left!)
We may be eating out a fair bit over the next couple of weeks. We’ll see. I’m going to keep trying to be creative!
About 2 years ago I gave up my career in real estate to be a full time mother and wife. While I do miss the thrill of the sale, I do not regret my decision to watch my children grow and to care for my family the way I’ve always dreamed of. That being said, I cannot avoid the allure of buying and selling houses. My dream has always been to buy a house with “good bones” and make it beautiful. Well, I am working hard to make my dream come true. My husband and I have found a beautiful house in a wonderful neighborhood that is perfectly plain and in need of updating. We have dubbed it “Vanilla House”. The kids even call it that! But first, we must sell our current home. Anybody interested?
We built this house and made changes along the way. Our first improvement was the back yard with a stone paver patio and fire pit. We added the retaining wall in front for curb appeal.
I adore our kitchen and breakfast area (and the wine bar!). Our kitchen is huge and has a ton of cabinet space. But my internal wannabe interior designer is calling me to “Vanilla House”.
Our living room and screened porch are both located off of the kitchen. These 3 rooms are probably the most lived in and most loved.
Here is our craft/laundry room. We tiled the floor in an extra bedroom and made it into this. Who really needs 2 guest bedrooms?! I love the tile we used. It looks like white-washed wood. And of course, the back yard. Our fire pit has seen a lot of roasted marshmallows and will see some more before we go. Hooray for fall!
I hope you like my home. If you live in North Carolina, please send me a buyer! And if you come look at my home, please don’t open any cabinets or closets. The amount of clutter I have tried to hide is atrocious! I cannot be responsible for falling objects!
